Project Summary
Lochrin Bain’s Combi™ Palisade was the product of choice for Capita’s Landscape Architects working on their recent Waterfront Business Park project. With concerns raised by local Crime Prevention Officers over security breaches using traditional front fix Palisade, the proposed Secured By Design Combi system, installed on neighboring properties for a number of years ticked all the right boxes. Barrow Waterfront originally formed part of the Timber dock until it was infilled in the early 1970’s and remained unused until recent planning applications were submitted to create a business park. Providing the gateway to re-development for the local area, the project involved the remediation of three plots of derelict land, reinstatement of foul and surface sewers, a new enhanced reptile habitat, and the creation of new pedestrian and cycle paths. Over two kilometers of the Police preferred fencing system along with fourteen pedestrian and vehicle gates were also successfully installed by Lochrin Bains approved installer Burn Fencing Ltd.
The Challenges
Due to the sites exposed coastal location, concerns were raised regarding product lifespan. To combat this, a specification was agreed incorporating a hot dipped Galvanized finish prior to the full fence being powder coated in a colour to match surrounding buildings. With various sections of the site having sever inclines it was also agreed that a fence designed to contour while offering a high security solution would be the best option.
The Specification
The final fence design utilised a 2.4 metre high 17 pale Secured By Design Combi™ system incorporating our patented ‘Vee’ slot with countersunk fixing. Unlike traditional Palisade fencing which can be easily compromised, Combi™ has gained several accreditations ranging from ‘Secured By Design’ the Police preferred initiative through to CPNI certification for use on CNI sites nationwide. A unique security solution which offers many of the advantages including the ability to rake without the need for additional posts or stepping of panels.
The Results
Working on projects of this nature can be challenging and with the recent announcement by Barrow Borough Council that they are looking to invest in a new 2320m² “Gateway” office block on the new site, the teams at Burn Fencing and Lochrin Bain are proud to play a part in providing a safe and secure environment for businesses, personnel and assets for the foreseeable future.
